Free tool for landlords
How healthy is your rent spreadsheet?
Everyone tells landlords to stop using spreadsheets. We'd rather look at yours. Drop in your rent ledger and see duplicate charges, months with no payment recorded, and the small mistakes that turn into "I already paid you."
No file handy?
How to save your ledger as a CSV
- Excel: File, then Save As (or Save a Copy), and choose "CSV UTF-8". Save the tab that has your rent charges and payments.
- Google Sheets: open the tab with your ledger, then File, Download, "Comma-separated values (.csv)".
- Numbers: File, Export To, CSV.
It works best with one row per charge or payment and columns for the date, tenant and amounts. Separate Charge and Payment columns, or one Amount column with a type, both work. Using our free rent ledger template? Save its Rent Ledger tab as a CSV.
What it checks
- The same charge entered twice in one month
- Months where rent was charged but no payment was recorded
- Payments that don't match what was charged that month
- One tenant spelled two different ways
- Rows with no tenant, no date, or amounts that aren't numbers
Or let the ledger keep itself
Landlord's Desk posts rent automatically, applies every payment you record to the right charge, keeps every correction on the record, and shows your tenant the same balance you see. You approve every change. Founding members get up to 60 days free, then 30% off their first year.
Your file is read in your browser and is not uploaded or stored by Landlord's Desk. This check is a simple bookkeeping review, not accounting or legal advice.
